Stixx vows backlash will begin in battle with Sabre Jr

When it finally came, Stixx and Malen’s first pinfall defeat was every bit as satisfying as fans had hoped. Having spent their first several months in the new FWA brutally attacking other tag teams and putting three different opponents on the “Critical List” after dropping them on their heads, the bullies from Nottingham found their recent past coming back to haunt them at British Uproar. The Daredevil Dragons and Retro Pop joined forces to jump Stixx and tie him to the entranceway, leaving Malen at the mercy of Project Ego inside the ring.
Backstage after their loss, the two men were foaming at the mouth with rage and shouting almost incoherently about reaping their revenge and taking out every other tag team in the country. For Zack Sabre Jr it was simply a case of wrong place, wrong time: having just suffered a disappointing loss himself, he entered the locker room looking for his tag partner Marty Scurll so that the Leaders of the New School could conduct a post-mortem on their loss, but instead he found himself taking the brunt of Stixx’s wrath. Never one to back down, Sabre Jr slapped the Heavyweight House of Pain across the face and initiated a pull-apart brawl that made both men even angrier. Stixx went to FWA management and demanded a chance to “make an example” out of Sabre Jr in a singles match at Battle Lines, and his challenge was quickly accepted.
This is a crucial match for both men: if Stixx’s threats are to be taken seriously by the rest of the tag division then he needs to make a clear statement in Wolverhampton by decisively beating one half of a team that may be the most popular in the land. Anything less than a clear win against this significantly smaller opponent would be a major setback for a man whose apparent tactic is to project an image of invincibility that will instil a sense of fear in his team’s opponents before the bell even rings. Equally, Sabre Jr has a point to prove after the pain of the Leaders’ defeat to Northern Xposure in Broxbourne – can he prove that he and Scurll have picked themselves up and moved on from February’s heartbreak, or will more voices be added to the small but growing number of fans who are beginning to openly question whether the Leaders are starting to struggle in the world’s most competitive tag team division?
These are two men whose teams have each lost twice in a row after impressive starts to their FWA careers and urgently need a win to bring them out of their downward spirals. Whoever is victorious, it promises to be a fascinating battle on 21st March between one of the UK’s most aggressive heavyweights and a youngster whose strikes and submissions are starting to earn him worldwide notoriety.
