Ligero to face his best friend as Singh lurks in the shadows

For El Ligero, British Uproar was a chance to draw a line under an increasingly bitter feud with RJ Singh. The self-proclaimed Bollywood star confidently danced his way into Broxbourne on a wave of media attention, planning to not only beat his rival but to repeat the heinous act of defacing the Mexican Sensation’s sacred mask, as he had done at Hotwired in November. But El Ligero had other ideas, and although he lost their Flyweight Title Round Robin match after interference from Singh’s entourage, he was able to turn the tables on them and reclaim the horns they had stolen in November.
On balance it was a good night for El Ligero, but the record books will still show that he lost the first of his three matches in the race for Flyweight gold. With that in mind, the man from Guadalajara will be especially eager to move on from his war with Singh and focus all of his attentions on his second tournament match. In Wolverhampton he is scheduled to face his best friend Bubblegum – a man who has got to know him exceptionally well in recent years as the two men have tagged together in promotions all over the country. Bubblegum has proven in the months since the FWA’s return that he is one of the most tenacious competitors anywhere in the wrestling world, and will be looking to bounce back in the flyweight division after consecutive defeats have taken him from the brink of FWA world championship glory to being out of title contention for an entire year.
Given the calibre of his opponent and how well he knows him, El Ligero must be acutely conscious of the fact that this make-or-break match could easily slip through his fingers, wiping out any hope he might have of winning the tournament and lifting flyweight gold. It must therefore be particularly unsettling for him to hear RJ Singh’s threats to escalate their rivalry at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall – this is a distraction that the masked luchador could very much do without as he heads into the most important match of his FWA career to date. Will El Ligero save his championship chances? Can Bubblegum claim victory at the expense of his best friend? And what does Singh have in store next for the man he has tormented since the rebirth of the FWA? All will be revealed on Sunday 21st March, live at Battle Lines...
